The geometry of the sample and the measuring method determine which sample positioning system must be used. For the contact angle meters of the OCA series, DataPhysics Instruments offers tilting units for dynamic contact angle measurements, electronic turn tables, glass cells, holders for single fibres, foils, and papers, as well as supports for captive bubble and contact lens measurements.

For measuring dynamic contact angles, the solid sample has to be tilted. Measuring on a tilted sample directly yields the advancing, receding and rolling angle as well as the contact angle hysteresis of drops.
The manual tilting base assembly TBA 360M is placed on top of the sample stage of a contact angle meter of the OCA series. With the manual turning mechanism, the small stage can be freely rotated a full 360°.
The electronic tilting base units TBU 100 and TBU 100EC automatically tilt the entire contact angle measuring instrument in a range of -5° to +95°. By tilting the entire system, the position of the sessile drop within the optical axis does not change, and analysing dynamic contact angles becomes even easier.

The electronic turn table with vacuum fixation ETT/VAC facilitates the mapping of silicon wafers. It allows access to any position, even on 12″ wafers. The ETT/VAC features a connection socket for a vacuum pump and can be equipped with different wafer sample chucks for 6″, 8″ and 12″ wafers.

Various different holders allow a secure fixation and easy positioning of films, papers, and single fibres.
Single fibre holder FHO 40plus
Holders for thin films FSH 30 and for films and paper FSC 80
Film, foil and leaf holder FHM 80
Captive bubble equipment with SHC 20
Contact lens holder CL 20
Holder for soft contact lenses SCL 21
The standard sample table of the contact angle meter of the OCA series can be replaced with one of the following specialised sample tables:
Suction plate SP 100
Sample table with holding clamps STC 100
Curved sample table with magnetic bars FHM 100
The interfacial tension between two liquids according to the pendant drop method and the contact angle of a liquid drop or gas bubble according to the captive bubble method can be measured using glass cells made of special optical glass. The glass cells are usable at up to 70 °C or in a high temperature version at up to 350 °C.
