Understanding Interfaces

Our motto is not an empty promise. On this page you will find explanations of the most important scientific terms and measurement methods in the field of interfacial chemistry and physics.

You will learn about basics like the surface tension and surface energy and what a contact angle is. Furthermore we will explain how the surface energy is dividable into a polar and dispersive part and how this concept can be used to determine the surface energy of solids. Additionally you can learn what surfactants and the critical micelle concentration are.

Last but not least we explain the two basic drop shape analysis methods, namely the pendant drop and the sessile drop method, used by the OCA series and how a force tensiometer of the DCAT series can measure surface and interfacial tensions with the Wilhelmy plate method.

We wish you a lot of fun and some increase in knowledge.
